DNA testing can be a valuable tool in genealogical research when it is combined with conventional genealogical research. Conventional genealogical research can only go as far as the records for the most distant relative. DNA test results, on the other hand, can be used to confirm or disprove a suspected ancestral connection or find the estimated date of the most recent common ancestor of two descendants. So, the Y-DNA test may help us to acquaint ourselves with our Therrien origins in France and the common roots of Jean and Pierre Terrien and their descendants where the records have not been able to confirm a connection.
Estimated dates will likely change in the future as more people test, and the testing method improves. Learn more about the Therrien Family Group Project and Family Tree DNA.
